The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services offers dog and cat adoptions to Carlsbad area veterans. The organization has two shelter locations, this one in Carlsbad (North shelter) and Bonita (South shelter), both of which partner with Pets for Patriots.

In addition to pet adoption, the Department of Animal Services investigates animal cruelty and neglect complaints, enforces local and state animal-related laws, evacuates and shelters animals in disasters, and provides a pet lost and found, pet altering referrals, dog licensing and pet microchip services.

As part of its commitment to responsible pet ownership and education, the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services provides free information on pet care and behavior, disaster planning, spay/neuter and relevant animal laws. In supports of its mission, the department offers a monthly course in responsible pet ownership in conjunction with the county District Attorney’s Office, to educate individuals involved in minor animal neglect situations.
