About Lake City Humane Society

The Lake City Humane Society offers dog and cat adoptions to veterans through its partnership with Pets for Patriots, and will help them find their new best friends. Operating in northern Florida since 1963, the shelter provides pet adoption and animal control services for Columbia County.

As part of its commitment to place as many pets as possible into loving homes, Lake City Humane Society maintains two prison dog-training programs. Through these ten-week programs, shelter dogs improve their prospects for adoption by learning valuable skills from select inmates, who themselves learn meaningful skills. In addition, the shelter maintains a spay/neuter program to help reduce the population of homeless pets across Columbia county.

Adoption Fees Include:

Age-appropriate vaccinations
Basic veterinary exam
Behavior assessment
Carrier (cats)
FeLV/FIV test (cats)
Flea/tick preventative
Heartworm test
Microchip for permanent identification
Spay/neuter
