Portsmouth Humane Society offers dog and cat adoptions Portsmouth area veterans and will help them find their new best friends.

The City of Portsmouth, without a city-run animal shelter of its own, relies upon the Portsmouth Humane Society (PHS), founded in 1889, to provide shelter, care, and adoption efforts for all of the city’s homeless animals.

Portsmouth Humane Society accepts monetary donations, as well as donations of pet food, blankets, towels, comforters and other essentials on their wish list. For a more hands-on experience, consider becoming one of their valued volunteers.

Adoption Fees Include:

Age-appropriate vaccinations, including rabies
FeLV/FIV test (cats)
Flea/tick preventative
Free wellness exam (with partnering hospitals)
Heartworm preventative
Heartworm test
Microchip for permanent identification
Pet food sample
