About Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter

Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter offers dog and cat adoptions to Long Island and metro New York veterans through its partnership with Pets for Patriots. It is the municipal shelter for the largest township in the country and is committed to finding homes for every adoptable animal in their care.

In addition to pet adoption, Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter provides other essential services to the community. The organization investigates animal cruelty and neglect complaints, and enforces state and local animal-related laws. An innovative anti-bite program is provided to U.S. Postal Service carriers and the shelter’s humane education program educates school children on responsible pet care.

Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter welcomes monetary and in-kind donations; see their complete wish list for details. For a more hands on experience become one of their valued volunteers or fosters.
