VCA Charities matching donations up to $50,000

Thanks to VCA Charities, Pets for Patriots has the chance to earn a total of $100,000 in donations to fund our lifesaving work.

The Honor Our Heroes $50k Challenge starts Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and runs through November 11, 2019 – Veterans Day.

All donations received online or by mail will be matched by VCA Charities dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000. Major gifts will be matched up to $10,000.

Our goal with the support of this challenge donation is to receive a total of $100,000 by Veterans Day. We need your help!

A whole lot of kibble

We can do a lot of good together with $100,000.

Every $250 saves the life of person and pet in our signature adoption program or through our hardship fund.

If the total $100,000 donation were dedicated to adoptions we could support 400 veteran-pet adoptions. Each includes pre-adoption counseling, a generous contribution towards ‘welcome home’ pet essentials, and post-adoption for one year.

Our hardship fund helps veterans in our program who are experiencing short-term financial difficulty. It prevents our heroes from surrendering their beloved pets to the shelter or euthanizing them solely for economic reasons.

If we dedicated the full $100,000 towards our hardship fund, we could keep together 400 veterans and their adopted pets.

In practice, if we earned the $100,000 donation most of it would fund adoptions. This is a reflection of increased number of veteran-pet matches we make each year.

A smaller, but substantial amount of the gift would support our hardship fund to ensure its continued sustainability.

Donations matched means more lives saved

Hundreds of lives of veterans and pets will be saved if we meet our $100,000 goal.

VCA Charities matching dollar-for-dollar means that your gift has double the lifesaving impact. You may even be able to triple the impact of your donation if your employer has a matching gift program.

See if your company will match your gift.

Honor Our Heroes

The love of a companion pet is lifesaving for our nation’s veterans.

Every day, beneficiaries of our work tell us how their pets give them a new sense of purpose. Even a reason to live.

And every dog or cat adopted from a shelter makes room for another vulnerable animal to be saved.

Our unique nationwide program works on the simple idea that love saves lives. To date we have made possible more than 2,400 veteran-pet adoptions – and counting!

Help us make the Honor Our Heroes $50k Challenge a lifesaving success. Donate today.

Okay...moment over! 🤣 This hunky hound just hit the adoption jackpot when Annette and her husband - both Air Force veterans - added this 3+ year-old fella to their family. We thank these high-flying patriots for their service and for opening their hearts and home to this magnificent beast!

This stunning 3 year-old mix just set sail with Jared, who for more than 10 years and counting serves in the Navy. The pair were matched through our partners @kitsaphumanesociety which offers veterans in our program 50% off adoption fees. Anchors aweigh!

Megan received a 25% adoption fee discount and has access to their low-cost veterinary clinic without proof of income - just a couple of the benefits of adopting through our partnership.

All we know is that this is one very lucky black cat! Smooth sailing, Megan and Little Man!

Joan knew she needed to dust herself off and save another 4-legged soul, so earlier this week she rescued 5 year-old Smokey, a stunning Cane Corso she met through our partners Baltimore County Animal Services, which gives veterans we serve 50% off adoption fees.

We're so honored that many veterans, like Joan, are repeat adopters through our program - embracing our mission to save the most vulnerable shelter animals while benefiting from their loyalty and love. ❤️

Cornelia was born and raised in France and her hus Cornelia was born and raised in France and her husband Ed in Belgium. Yet both served their adopted nation - Ed in the Navy and Cornelia in the Army. The pair met in New Jersey and married on Veterans Day more than 20 years ago.

These days the couple lives in an assisted living facility and, sadly, Ed's health is such that he's not always able to interact with Cornelia. She grew lonely and wanted nothing more than a little dog to love.

After months of searching, mission accomplished! Thanks to our partners @ywacpets for going the extra mile to help Cornelia find the perfect match:

"She's exactly what I needed and wanted.  She's 9 pounds of love.  She kisses me on the mouth and then turns on her back placing her neck over my mouth so I can kiss her and tell her I love her.  She sleeps with me and is being spoiled rotten by all the employees at the facility, directors on down." ~ Cornelia, US Army veteran ❤️
