Story Details

Background:

Humane Society of the Huron Valley and its associated Veterinary Clinic are program members since November 2011. As one of just a handful of dual adoption/veterinary partners, this is an important release for us.

Note: they are a four-star rated charity with Charity Navigator and have done a great job creating a dedicated page on their adoption programs site

Quotes:

Deb Kern, marketing director HS of Huron Valley:

What made you decide to become a Pets for Patriots partner? As soon as we heard about the program we knew it was a great opportunity to match a deserving patriot with a homeless pet in need. So many studies have been done that prove that pets can not only bring years of joy to a family but they also can improve overall health of individuals because of the unconditional love that is shared. Giving back a little joy and love to individuals that have done so much for our country was something the Humane Society of Huron Valley embraced right away.

What do you hope to achieve by participating in our program? Finding caring homes for our homeless pets is always our main mission. Because the Pets for Patriots program highlights adult pets and pets with disabilities we are hopeful that the length of stay for these animals will decrease in our shelter. We of course also hope that the pet adoption experience will be a joyful and happy experience and our adoption counselors are excited to make great matches that will lead to a perfect companion for each patriot.

How is our focus on adult and other at-risk pets meaningful to you? Finding caring homes for our homeless pets is always our main mission. Because the Pets for Patriots program highlights adult pets and pets with disabilities we are hopeful that the length of stay for these animals will decrease in our shelter.

Anything else you'd like to share we didn't think to ask? It was Gandhi that said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." We think this program, that matches shelter pets and patriots is a large step in the right direction and the Humane Society of Huron Valley is proud to be a participating shelter.
