Macon County Animal Control & Care Center

About Macon County Animal Control & Care Center

The Macon County Animal Control and Care Center offers dog and cat adoptions to Pets for Patriots members in Macon County and will help them find their new best friend. The municipal facility is under the direct supervision of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department which, in addition to pet adoptions, is responsible for the enforcement of all animal welfare laws and the prosecution of abuse.

The shelter has operated under “no kill”  guidelines since 2008. Only animals that are deemed sick, wild or aggressive are euthanized.

As part of its commitment to reduce animal overpopulation and animal cruelty, the facility ensures that all animals at the shelter are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. The Macon County Animal Control and Care Center is supported through a municipal budget and through donations made to the Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. In addition to funding capital projects and spay/neuter, the Foundation funds the adoption fees for all veterans.

Adoption Fees Include:

Spay/neuter
Deworming
Rabies vaccination
Microchip for permanent identification
Heartworm check (dogs)
DHLPP (dogs)
FVCRP (cats)
Feline leukemia test (cats)
