About Macon County Animal Control & Care Center

Macon County Animal Control & Care Center works with Pets for Patriots to help veterans adopt companion dogs and cats.

The municipal organization is the only open admission shelter in the county and never turns an animal away. A staff veterinarian provides essential care for both incoming and resident animals. The shelter is operated by the County Sheriff’s office and is responsible for the investigation, enforcement, and prosecution of animal abuse and other animal-related crimes.

Macon County Animal Control & Care Center welcomes monetary and in-kind donations through Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. It is a nonprofit organization that raises funds in support of the shelter’s homeless animals.

Monetary and wish list donations are welcome, as are volunteers and pet fosters.
